PARENT EDUCATION PROGRAM
Illinois Supreme Court Rule 924 requires divorcing parents to attend a
parent education program.  

Exceptions.  Very limited exceptions exist to the mandatory requirement.

Subject matter.  The class is designed to educate parents how children are
affected by the splitting of their parents, including impact of parents' actions
and words.

Duration.  The required length of the class is 4 hours.

Deadline.  The deadline to attend this class is 60 days after initial case
management conference.  

Failure to attend.  Sanctions can be imposed if a party fails to attend the
class including refusal to grant the divorce.


The 17th Judicial Circuit includes Winnebago and Boone Counties which
utilize the same
parent education program.


The 15th Judicial Circuit encompasses Ogle, Lee, Stephenson, Carroll, and
Jo Davies counties.  Ogle and Lee counties utilize the same
parent
education program.
